Yatseniuk: Ukraine spends $1 bln on gas supplies to occupied territories
Ukraine has spent $1 billion on supplying gas territories of Ukraine where armed militant organizations have seized control from the authorities, but didn’t receive adequate payment, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said on Thursday during a meeting of the National Tripartite Social and Economic Council.
"We spent $1 billion on gas supplies to the uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and got zero back. The bills are not paid there. People should not freeze there, that’s why we have to do this, because these people are Ukrainian citizens," Yatseniuk said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples’ Republics militant organizations have paid only 20-25% of the cost of gas supplied by Naftogaz Ukrainy.
