"Kurt Volker is the first, not a political one, but a real loss. We were not indifferent to him – this is truly rare case in politics. Thank you so much for everything, Kurt. It's all so sad. But it's just the beginning," Klimkin wrote on Facebook on Saturday, September 28.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Kurt Volker resigned one day after the release of a whistleblower report alleging a coverup by the White House of a call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine's President, according to CNN.

Volker has become a key player in the unfolding scandal surrounding the whistleblower complaint concerning Trump's July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, CNN said.

Volker later set up a meeting between Trump's personal attorney Giuliani, who had been interested in getting Ukraine to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden, and a Zelensky adviser in an effort to get the Biden matter out of official talks.

Kurt Volker was appointed special envoy to Ukraine by Rex Tillerson, the former secretary of state, on July 7, 2017.
