Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has opened criminal proceedings against ex-Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko over the possible abuse of power or official position based on the statement by Chairman of the president's Servant of the People faction in Ukrainian Parliament David Arakhamia.

"According to the MP's statement, criminal proceedings have been opened regarding a possible abuse of power by former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko in a preliminary conspiracy with other persons," the SBI's press service said on October 1.

The case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 364 (abuse of power or official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The State Bureau of Investigation also confirmed the case had been registered at the request of Arakhamia. The statement concerns Lutsenko's possible conspiracy with a number of former lawmakers and other persons related to the illegal gambling businesses.
