Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova has said Ukrainian activist and volunteer Ihor Mazur was detained in Poland at the request of the Russian Federation.
"Employee of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Ihor Mazur has been detained at the Dorohusk border checkpoint in Poland at the request of the Russian Federation," she wrote on Facebook.
"The issue of the arrest of our colleague with a view to extradition to Russia will be decided in the city of Chełm on Monday, November 11," Denisova said.
In this regard, she calls on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to contribute to the liberation of Mazur, a Ukrainian public activist and participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war in Donbas.
Denisova also asked the media to help spread information to prevent trial against Mazur and his extradition to the Russian Federation.
As reported on the official website of the UNA-UNSO [the Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian People's Self-Defence], the detention took place at the request of the Russian Investigative Committee on Mazur's putting on international wanted list on charges of participating in the battles on Minutka Square in the city of Grozny during the First Chechen War.
According to these data, Mazur was traveling to Poland at the invitation of Deputy Marshal of the Sejm Beata Mazurek.
