The corresponding decree and cost estimates have been published on the government’s Web site.
Over three years the border is to be equipped with the necessary fortification structures. The estimated costs of the project total over UAH 4 billion, of which more than UAH 1 billion is to be spent in 2015.
According to the approved action plan, nearly 2,000 kilometers of the state border will be equipped with anti-tank (anti-vehicular) moats of 4 x 2 meters, 17-meter high metal observation towers, monitoring devices, alarm and defensive systems, and defensive fortifications for border guards.
The administration of the State Border Service will carry out the coordination of the activities on setting up defenses on the Russian-Ukrainian state border, on the areas adjacent to the anti-terrorist operation zone, and the areas next to the Russian-occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
