People’s Self-Defense parliamentary group supports the creation of a temporary special commission of the Verkhovna Rada to introduce amendments into the Constitution.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, lawmaker Oles Doniy (OU-PSD faction) claimed this to a press conference in Kyiv today.

“Today the majority of People’s Self-Defense group, which numbers 18 people, supported the idea that the Constitution may be changed only into a constitutional way”, O.Doniy said.

He recalled that, in line with the existing Constitution, 12 out of 15 its chapters must be adopted only in parliament, and 3 – at first in parliament, and then at a referendum.

“People’s Self Defense supports creating an ad hoc special commission in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on issues of Constitution”, O.Doniy said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the factions of Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko and Party of Regions insist on creating the ad hoc special commission in the Verkhovna Rada.

At the same time, Our Ukraine-People’s Self Defense faction leader Vyacheslav Kyrylenko claimed he is categorically opposed to this idea. He claimed on 14 April that should BYuT vote for creating the ad hoc commission, it may split the coalition.
