Poroshenko expressed gratitude for the attention of the Bundestag to the peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas and support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, restoration of territorial integrity.

The President of Ukraine stressed the importance of the policy of sanctions against the aggressor: "Sanctions are an effective mechanism that encourages Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements," he said.

Poroshenko also welcomed the results of talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on February 1, 2016, which reaffirmed the common vision on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the extension of sanctions. In this context, the President stressed the need to preserve the unity of the European Union.

During the meeting it was pointed out the crucial importance of the continuation of Ukraine's policy of implementation of a broad program of systemic reforms that will strengthen political stability, the implementation of a fair system of justice, the embodiment of effective anti-corruption policies, acceleration of economic growth and a comprehensive convergence with the European Union.

In the context of discussions on energy cooperation, Poroshenko said that Ukraine counted on the solidarity of the European Union under the Nord Stream-2 project.
