President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko claimed this at a meeting with the Atlantic Council of the United States at the offices of Chadbourne & Parke LLP in New York on Wednesday.
According to the President, Yulia Tymoshenko started the constitutional process (introducing amendments into the Constitution) as early as in May.
And this document was not signed in Ukraine. “The document was developed with the assistance of Victor Medvedchuk [Chief of Staff of Ukraine’s ex-President Kuchma] for Yulia Tymoshenko’s Bloc and the Prime Minister personally”, the Ukrainian President said.
Victor Yushchenko is convinced that “Tymoshenko and Medvedchuk are the first partner in the Ukrainian politics today. They are first partners, this is the first corresponding pair. And [it formed] not now, and not a month or two ago”.
The President disclosed: “As soon as I submitted Yulia Tymoshenko’s candidacy to parliament, I proposed her candidacy twice for they elected her, she came to me the very next day and asked to appoint Medvedchuk either as an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia, or as a Deputy Prime Minister. I categorically said that this person would never be in the Ukrainian powers”, the President said.
