BYuT faction lawmakers, representatives of big business, have criticized the government’s draft law on anti-crisis measures in the face of world financial crisis.

According to “Delo” daily, BYuT MP Tariel Vasadze spoke against the increase of excises on cars. T.Vasadze controls “Ukravto” company, the Ukraine’s biggest car producer and importer.

He is confident that the measures proposed by the government will just worsen the situation at the domestic car market.

“The Financial Ministry found sources to replenish the budget, but it kills the domestic production”, he said.

As it is known, in its anti-crisis draft law, the government proposes to rise car excises by 5-10 times. At present an average excise makes $200 per car. If the government’s proposals are adopted, since the new year the excises will soar up to $1000.

The Cabinet of Ministers expects to receive additional 2.5 million hryvnias from this source. However, T.Vasadze insists that it’s necessary not to increase excises but to introduce order into customs duties.

Other BYuT faction lawmaker Serhiy Pashynskiy spoke against the increase of excises on oil products. The government’s draft law proposes to increase the petrol excise almost twice – up to 110 euro for a ton (at present it makes 60 euro).

“I will insist that they not increase the excise. Having increased their prices, oil traders will get an extraordinary profit”, the MP said.
