The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has refused to put on the daily agenda the issue of confirming Arseniy Yatseniuk’s resignation from the post of parliament’s Speaker.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, 220 MPs out of 440 registered in the chamber voted for this.

The BYuT and OU-PSD faction did not support the issue.

The issue was put for voting by Arseniy Yatseniuk himself after MP Oleksander Yefremov, head of the parliamentary regulations committee, informed that the committee had considered the Speaker’s application and recommends lawmakers to consider it too.

O.Yefremov (the Party of Regions faction) recalled that Arseniy Yatseniuk sent in his resignation as early as two months ago.

At the same time, the Party of Regions recommended to vote on the issue not with ballots but with voting cards in the session hall.

“If you, Arseniy Petrovych [Yatseniuk], really sent in resignation, and there are no reefs, you don’t have grounds to hamper the chamber to vote on it”, the lawmaker stressed.
