Rada at night session on budget, Poroshenko joins
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and leader of the People's Front Party Arseniy Yatsenyuk have arrived at Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada as the lawmakers are holding a night session in an attempt to pass a draft budget for 2017.
"The Presidential Standard (banner) is at the Rada. Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk are at Speaker Andriy Parubiy's office now," MP from the Batkivschyna Party Oleksiy Ryabchyn wrote on Facebook in the early hours of Wednesday, December 21.
The lawmakers are to pass the draft budget for the coming year at the current session, which started on Tuesday, December 20.
Read alsoRada intends to adopt state budget on Dec 22They are simultaneously considering a number of related bills, namely amendments to the Budget and Tax Codes that are aimed at improving the investment climate and ensuring the balance of revenue and expenditures.
There have been two breaks in the current session already.
December 25 is set as the deadline for the adoption of the 2017 budget draft, as this is one of the conditions for further cooperation between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Ukraine expects a new disbursement of an IMF loan in January 2017.
