Lytvyn elected as Speaker of Ukrainian parliament

Lytvyn’s Bloc faction leader Volodymyr Lytvyn has been elected as the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, 244 MPs out of 422 present in the chamber voted for this.

In particular, his candidacy was supported by 154 MPs from the BYuT faction, 40 – OU-PSD faction, 27 – CPU, 20 – the Lytvyn’s Bloc, and three lawmakers from the Party of Regions faction (Taras Chornovil, Vassyl Hrytsak, and Yukhym Zvyahilskiy).
