A respective decision was announced by judge Vladyslav Deviatko on Friday, June 16.
"Having heard the views of the parties and studied the materials at the preparatory session, the court has decided to schedule hearings on the high treason case against Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych on the merits for June 26 at 10:00 local time," the court said.

In particular, the court decided to ask the Higher Council of Justice to check if statements by Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, his deputy, military prosecutor Anatoliy Matios and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov could be considered as exerting the pressure on the court.
During the preparatory session, Yanukovych's defense insisted that three professional judges should be involved and opposed the idea of engaging the jury if the case is considered on its merits.
Yanukovych is charged with treason, complicity with the Russian authorities, deliberate actions committed to change the borders of the territory and the state border of Ukraine in violation of the Ukrainian Constitution. He is also accused of waging an aggressive war. These are the crimes stipulated in Part 1 of Article 111, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 110, and Part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
