To hamper BYuT and the Party of Regions to form a coalition and to prevent introducing amendments into the Constitution, the President of Ukraine may resign on his own will. Glavred has learnt this from the Presidential Secretariat.

According to the source, Victor Yushchenko is categorically opposed to the union and has intent to take drastic measures. “If a President terminates his authorities ahead of schedule, in line with the Constitution, a direct presidential election must take place in 90 days”, the source noted.

Earlier Victor Yushchenko had claimed that the real aim of creating the new coalition is to introduce amendments into the Constitution, in particular, to cancel direct presidential elections. “It threatens democratic values and introduces an anti-European course of Ukraine”, the President had noted.
