Nestor Shufrych became new Minister of Emergencies

Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych introduced to the personnel of the Ministry of Emergencies and Affairs of Population Protection from the Consequences of Chornobyl Catastrophe of Ukraine new Minister Nestor Shufrych and determined top priority tasks of the Ministry, according to the press-office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

      The Head of Government stressed that the main objective of the Ministry – to efficiently prevent emergencies and protect population from the consequences of Chornobyl catastrophe.

      Prime Minister underscored the necessity of coordinating the activity of the Ministry of Emergencies with the central and local authorities in preventing emergencies. Viktor Yanukovych noted that the Ministry must work at improvement and a complex use of its facilities.

      In PM’s opinion, one of the most burning problems is the situation in Novobohdanivka, Zaporizhya region. Prime Minister urged new Minister to close cooperation with the Ministry of Defence in liquidation of surplus ammunition and stressed on the necessity to elaborate a joint model which would prevent such emergencies.

      A key direction in the Ministry’s activity is a complex of actions at the Chornobyl NPP, Prime Minister said. In Particular, Viktor Yanukovych noted the necessity of withdrawal of CNPP from exploitation, social protection of population suffered from the catastrophe. “Today this work is unsatisfactory there are many questions that need to be answered”, Prime Minister stressed.

      Viktor Yanukovych wished the Minister and personnel to have opportunities to protect the country and personally Nestor Shufryn – use his experience in legislation for the Ministry’s reformation. “Modern requirements should be taken into consideration in the development of the Ministry”, Prime Minister said.

      In his turn the Minister assured the Head of Government that all tasks would be fulfilled and the Ministry would always be ready to respond immediately to any situation
