Victor Yushchenko has called on journalists and society to have a “serious dialogue” on passage of the “unconstitutional” Law on the Cabinet of Ministers, according to the President`s press-office.

“I want journalists of Ukraine and the nation to be involved in a formal and meaningful conversation to discuss this law,” he said in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra after attending a church service on Saturday.

The President said he wanted it to be a “serious conversation with no personal interests.”

“You are members of society and so speak about it please,” he insisted.

Mr. Yushchenko confirmed his intention to appeal to the Constitutional Court to pronounce the law unconstitutional.

“But what is important to me is not the appeal itself but your understanding of why I do it,” he explained.

The President opined that the law may deprive Ukrainians of their instruments to balance government.

“This is not Yushchenko’s problem but the country’s problem. It either forms a system of government that can ensure democratic progress or it makes us return to the system with no checks and balances but a monopoly on either the truth or lies,” he said.
