The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has addressed to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and accused President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko of putting pressure upon the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, 252 out of 258 lawmakers, present at the session, voted for this.

In particular, the VR address reads: “the conflict in Ukraine may be settled only in the legal field, basing on certain Constitutional mechanisms”.

The address notes that the Constitutional Court must assess the President’s decree on early election.

“Contrary to the Constitution, neglecting the constitutional status, the Guarantor of Constitution meets in public with CC judges, imposing on them his vision of the situation”, the address reads.

The Verkhovna Rada accuses the President of threatening judges with pre-schedule termination of their authorities, “which is obviously the same legal willfulness as the termination of the authorities of the parliament”.
