President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych is confident that gas issues in Ukrainian-Russian relations should be solved consistently, taking into account the interests of both parties, he said at the press conference after the Fourth Session of the Ukrainian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.

“The issue of gas has never been easy in relations between Ukraine and Russia. Yet, it is very important that we were solving this issue consistently and in accordance with the interests of both Ukraine and Russia," he said.

"We see prospects and should be seeking answer to this question until the end of the year. I think we`ll find them," Viktor Yanukovych.

As to the strategic component of the gas problem, President Yanukovych said, Ukraine is interested in having such a relations with its strategic partner Russia that would solve the issue not only bilaterally, but would also "remove tensions” regarding the supply of energy resources, specifically gas, to the EU countries.

The President has once again assured that Ukraine will be a reliable partner in this area and will conduct "a stable, predictable policy in this regard”.

"We will of course be protecting our national interests. We regard our relations only in this scope and from that point of view," he said.
