President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met in Astana with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.

The Ukrainian President highlighted the activity of meetings and telephone contacts with his Belarusian counterpart this year. "We are neighbors, partners and have many joint projects," the President of Ukraine said, adding that there are some issues of bilateral cooperation, he would like to once again discuss today.

President Yanukovych praised the economic achievements of Belarus. "We are pleased to have neighbors with such pace of economy development," Viktor Yanukovych said, adding that it was certainly the result of many years of work.

He wished Alexander Lukashenko every success in the upcoming presidential election. "The Ukrainians will be supporting you no less than your friends in Belarus," Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President of Belarus agreed that Ukraine and Belarus have common interests working on citizens` welfare. "I am ready to discuss these issues ... I was very interested in today’s meeting," Alexander Lukashenko said.

The parties agreed to hold another meeting soon, where they would discuss topical questions of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Belarus and take appropriate decisions.
