Ukraine is interested in enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation with Egypt, according to the Department of Information and Communications of the Secretariat of the CMU. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said that during meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
This is the first official visit of the Egyptian Minister to Ukraine since independence.
"We call you and your Government to work actively to increase our bilateral trade and economic cooperation. In particular, the decision that we took to create a service centre for our aircraft, engines, and the cooperation in the modernization of the Egyptian defence equipment will enhance our bilateral relations" - Mykola Azarov emphasized. The Prime Minister added that during his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt in November this year he had fruitful talks with the Prime Minister of Egypt Ahmed Nazif, during which the parties defined the main directions of cooperation between our countries.
In particular, measures to strengthen trade and economic ties between our countries, which provide support for military-technical cooperation, development of bilateral relations in oil and gas industry, strengthening cooperation in cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres were approved.
Moreover, Mykola Azarov noted that during his talks with Ahmed Nazif, the sides noted the successful activities of "Naftogaz Ukraine" in Egypt, which in a short time has drilled 17 wells and has entered the daily oil production of over 100 thousand barrels.
According to him, Ukraine is interested in expanding presence in the Egyptian market of agricultural products, primarily through the export of Ukrainian wheat. To ensure the interests of Ukrainian farmers, parties agreed to consider the possibility of including Ukraine in the list of regular suppliers of agricultural products to Egypt.
In turn, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Egypt said his country would certainly fulfil all commitments that have been achieved during Mykola Azarov visit to Egypt. "We will implement all agreements you referred. I am confident that the upcoming visit of the President Mubarak and the Prime Minister of Egypt in Ukraine will be able to raise our relations on a new level" - he stressed.
