Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych believes that decision on holding snap elections shall be adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, according to the government’s web site. “This is a political issue and it shall be adopted in the Parliament by all participants of the political process and, first of all, by the parties presented in the Parliament,” Viktor Yanukovych stated at public hearings on adjusting the political crisis in the Ukrainian House (Ukrajinsky Dim).

According to the Head of Government, we are to tackle some questions during public hearings. “Firstly and chiefly, it is necessary to return to the legal field,” Viktor Yanukovych said noting that it is a principle of the democratic country. “Secondly, to work through all necessary laws. And the last one, an issue on the advisability of snap elections to put for the Parliament’s consideration. It should be adopted within the Parliament by agreement of all participants of the process,” the Prime Minister stressed.

At the same time the PM noted that “if the elections are to take place they shall be held within the framework of the legal field which is lacking today”. “We must work at this question. The Verkhovna Rada is to work with this purpose,” Viktor Yanukovcyh said.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Parliament shall work uninterruptedly. “The regularity of work of all branches of power determined by the Constitution should act,” the Head of Government stressed.

At that Viktor Yanukovych said that, to his mind, there had not been grounds for the Parliament’s dissolution and decrees of the President are “by the highest standards doubtful”.

The Prime Minister reported that soon the Government means to present the Strategy of Ukraine’s Development till 2011 and offer a list of reforms and their priority.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, this issue will be put for public hearings and shall be adjusted at the political level.
