Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko believes the Azarov government’s policy to regulate food prices is flawed, according to the Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Azarov is using the wrong tools to solve problems. There is only one simple thing that needs to be done to prevent buckwheat and other consumer goods from becoming more expensive – stop the National Bank’s printing press from printing hryvnias without any economic justification. This is what’s causing prices for buckwheat and everything else to go up," Yulia Tymoshenko said, commenting on the Ukrainian government’s plans to purchase buckwheat from China in order to maintain prices on the domestic market.

In her opinion, this measure once again demonstrates the current government’s unprofessionalism. "It’s a pity that Azarov has one pill for every occasion. This is because he doesn’t have a specialized education or any professional skills. I think that as soon as they stop printing hryvnias they won’t have to print a one hundred hryvnia bill, but if they do, it will certainly have Yanukovych’s portrait on it," she added.

As reported, Azarov’s government plans to purchase 20,000 tons of buckwheat from China in order to keep prices on the domestic market at 10-11 hryvnias per kilogram. Buckwheat is currently being sold in Kyiv at 18-26 hryvnias, up from 10-13 hryvnias in December 2010.
