President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych held a telephone conversation with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden, according to Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.

During the conversation Viktor Yanukovych and Joseph Biden have discussed the results of the third meeting of the Ukrainian-American Strategic Partnership Commission on February 15, 2011. They have both agreed that the Washington meeting was successful and that the results of our joint work deserve acclaim.

Speaking about the development of democracy in Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych noted that he appreciates the efforts of the United States to strengthen democracy in the world and the attention to development of democratic institutions in Ukraine.

"We remain open to constructive dialogue on strengthening democracy and the rule of law, as well as implementation of relevant reforms", Viktor Yanukovych said.

The parties have also discussed the process of criminal justice and electoral law improvement in Ukraine with the aim of strengthening our civil society. "We created a working group to improve electoral legislation, which involved international experts. I am confident that the completion of electoral law reform will be another step towards our European integration," Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President of Ukraine and the U.S. Vice President have discussed the status of implementation of mutual commitments on nuclear safety.

"Ukraine is ready to work further to remove all the highly enriched uranium by the Nuclear Security Summit in 2012," Viktor Yanukovych underscored.

President Yanukovych and Vice President Biden have also discussed preparation for the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy. Vice President Biden promised high level representation of the United States at the events. "Ukraine and the international community are actively preparing a summit and a scientific conference. Our initiative is supported by most of the countries and international organizations of the world," Viktor Yanukovych said.

Joseph Biden has thanked Ukraine for the assistance in the evacuation of U.S. citizens from Libya.

The parties have discussed the question of European integration of Ukraine, steps to improve business climate in Ukraine, and creating better conditions for attracting foreign direct investment.

"Ukraine is now introducing a number of important reforms that are aimed at modernizing the country radically," Viktor Yanukovych said.

Joseph Biden gave a positive assessment of reforms initiated in Ukraine.
