Hyundai-made high-speed trains will hit Ukrainian tracks in May 2012, Vice Premier and Minister of Infrastructure Borys Kolesnykov announced, according to KyivWeekly. “The trains will be delivered in April 2012 and in May of that year they will put on the tracks. This means that high-speed travel by rail be launched between the four Ukrainian cities that will host the Euro-2012 football championships,” the vice premier stated. He said Hyundai is the only company in the world that is capable of meeting the tight deadlines of the production of quality high-speed trains for Ukraine in time for the Euro-2012 event. This entails putting into operation on the country’s railway tracks a dual system of inter-regional electric trains that will transport passengers at a speed of 160 km/hr. In accordance with the contract, six electric trains will be delivered in time for Euro-2012 and another four later the same year. The first six trains will shuttle between Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv and Lviv.
