Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko hopes the European Court of Human Rights will force the Ukrainian government to release former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko from custody, according to the Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"I hope that the European Court of Human Rights in the coming days will consider this issue and force the Ukrainian government to release from custody a person that did nothing to deserve being behind bars," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists today.

Yulia Tymoshenko recalled that Yuriy Lutsenko is on day 16 of a hunger strike. "The government doesn’t like our political struggle and that is why Yuriy Lutsenko, one of the key leaders of an opposition party, who is ready to oppose the regime, is in jail. He has been on a hunger strike for 16 days, and as his wife said, he can barely stay on his feet," she said.
