According to operative data of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, as of May 26, 2011, Ukrainian agrarians sowed spring grains and leguminous plants throughout the areas of 7.5 mln ha, or 99% from the planned areas, an increase of 170 thsd ha compared to the previous year level, according to www.agrimarket.info.
In particular, agrarians sowed maize for grain throughout the areas of 3.3 mln ha or 105% of the forecast, buckwheat – 269.1 thsd ha (86%), millet – 143.9 thsd ha (110%). The Ministry increased own forecast of buckwheat sowings to the level of 313.5 thsd ha.
As of the reporting date, agricultural enterprises sowed sunflower throughout 3.78 mln ha (107% of the forecast), soybean – 1.06 mln ha (94% of the forecast).
According to the specified data from regions, in the current year the general sowing areas of agricultural crops will total 26.7 mln ha (at the previous year level), including grains – 15.6 mln ha (up 443 thsd ha compared to 2010 results), winter grain sowings form 8 mln ha and spring grains and leguminous plants – 7.6 mln ha.
