Achieving democratic culture policy in Ukraine requires a number of reforms, President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting of the Public Humanitarian Council, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.

"We should take European experience into account... Reforms should focus on improving public administration for the government model in humanitarian area supported the initiative of citizens... This will allow involving citizens in public life more intensively," he said.

The President is confident that the construction of truly European level cultural policy should also rely on the support of NGOs, mostly because they are the experts of the society. "I think we can trust them and build our work on mutual cooperation," Viktor Yanukovych said.

He called for establishing a working group to elaborate a concept of public humanitarian policy with its participants being the members of the Public Humanitarian Council and National Academy of Sciences.

The President emphasized that this work should be done quickly, so that the appropriate legislative initiative was introduced to the Parliament before it considers draft 2012 Budget.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, systemic culture reform, which should begin soon, will be an important step in reforming the humanitarian sphere, which will fundamentally changed the humanitarian policy of the state making it really meet the society’s needs.
