Judge Rodion Kireyev has banned live television broadcast of the questioning of witnesses in Yulia Tymoshenko’s trial, according to the Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Given the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Code and guided by the views of the participants of the process, the court rules to allow photography, video recording and broadcast of the preliminary stage of the proceedings. The court forbids photography, video recording and broadcast at the start of the trial. The possibility of live broadcast after the examination of witnesses will be resolved immediately after the Criminal Procedure Code is implemented," said the judge.

Judge Kireyev believes this will ensure the openness of the court proceedings. "The court hearing is open," the judge said, referencing article 20 of the Criminal Procedure Code and article 11 of the law of Ukraine on the judiciary and status of judges.

The judge stressed that those present in the courtroom must use portable audio and video recorders in such a way that ensures witnesses are not aware of testimony given by other witnesses in the trial.
