On October 20, 2011 President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych will visit Brussels at the invitation of European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych. According to the President of Ukraine, the purpose of the visit is achieving political agreements needed to complete the negotiations on an association agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, Viktor Yanukovych and Jose Manuel Barroso have agreed today during a telephone conversation.

The President of Ukraine has assured that he is eager to continue open and constructive dialogue for the sake of further rapprochement between Ukraine and the European Union. He expressed hope that following the negotiation rounds in July and September this year, the whole text of the document would be agreed.

According to the President of Ukraine, he will continue constructive steps aimed at finding compromises on the issues that still remain unresolved. Viktor Yanukovych said he hopes for President Jose Manuel Barroso’s personal support in the process.

He also noted that on June 6, the Ukrainian side had forwarded a report on the progress of implementation of the first legislative stage of the visa-liberalization action plan to the European Commission. "We hope for positive opinion of the European Commission on the execution of the first phase of the document by the Ukrainian side. We also count on the adoption of a political decision by the EU Member States by the end of the year on proceeding to the second phase of the action plan implementation," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych has also confirmed his intention to take part in the Eastern Partnership Summit on September 29-30 in Warsaw.

During the conversation the European Commission President has congratulated the President of Ukraine on his birthday.
