Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn does not rule out that Europe can impose sanctions on Ukraine.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, the Speaker said this during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 10th session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 6th convocation.

He notes that for the period of 17 years Ukraine has not fulfilled the basic obligations before the Council of Europe and the result of it is “a permanent monitoring, new recommendations, which transform into additional obligations and development of new democratic standards in Ukraine”.

“In this context, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should take particular responsibility to recommendations for us from the European institutions, including the recent PACE resolution”, said V. Lytvyn.

"Personally, I have a sense of programming of the next step- the sanctions, because it is rather problematic to fulfill everything in time and, moreover, to introduce amendments into constitution in such a short term”, noted the Speaker of the VRU.
