Ukraine's auto production drops 16.8 pct in January-February

Ukraine`s vehicle production in the January-February period dropped 16.8 percent year on year, an industry body said Tuesday, according to Xinhua.

A total of 11,340 vehicles were produced in Ukraine during the first two months of 2012, down by 2,320 units from a year earlier, the Ukravtoprom Analysis Group said in their latest report.

Passenger cars production declined 19.5 percent to 10,427 units, while truck output jumped 65 percent to 635 units. Bus output, meanwhile, stood at 278 units, up 1.1 percent in the recording period, according to Ukravtoprom.

For February, automobile production was down 29 percent from a year ago to 6,530 units, it said.

Over 104,000 cars were built in Ukraine in 2011, up 26 percent from a year earlier.
