The Ukrainian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission should meet soon President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Novo-Ogaryovo, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.
"A package of documents has been prepared that we should discuss, sum up, and make a decision to sign. They will of course create the conditions for our countries’ economic development," Viktor Yanukovych said.
The President drew attention to the importance of intensifying sectoral economic cooperation between Ukraine and Russia. According to him, much has been done in this direction: "It includes the issue of nuclear energy, raw materials preparation in this area and in general in the energy sector," he said.
Viktor Yanukovych also called for further strengthening of regional cooperation between the two countries. "I am confident that everything that has been done in the area of inter-regional cooperation should be continued and deepened... The border regions of Ukraine and Russia have already done much to join their efforts to expand cross-border trade and to create the conditions for our citizens to cross the border," he said.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Russia drew attention to the dynamic growth of trade turnover between Ukraine and Russia. "We have greatly exceeded the pre-crisis level of trade turnover. In 2008 it was 40 billion, and late last year –already 50. This is a very good pace and of course we should keep it," said Vladimir Putin.
