The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 5th convocation adopted Law “On Introducing Amendments into Law of Ukraine “On Status of National Deputy of Ukraine”, canceling privileges for lawmakers.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, 261 out of 266 MPs, present in the chamber, voted for this.
In particular, the law stipulates canceling the norm about providing lawmakers with an annual paid vacation, with paying them a material aid for their invigoration at a double month salary.
Besides, the article concerning providing MPs with dwellings was also wiped out from the law.
When discussing the draft law, some lawmakers stressed that after wiping out this provision the law will not set out how exactly lawmakers will be provided with, at least, official dwelling. One of the draft law authors, Party of Regions lawmaker Yevhen Kysselyov noted that a year of a lawmaker’s living in a hotel costs 125 thousand hryvnias, and during 5 years this amount makes over 600 thousand hryvnias. At the same time, the law stipulated to pay lawmakers a reimbursement at 300 thousand hryvnias for dwelling. Ye.Kysselyov is convinced that the parliament must make a decision to build an “official town” for lawmakers, as Verkhovna Rada Speaker Oleksander Moroz used to propose.
Besides, lawmakers cancelled the privileges, concerning flights in the business-class, and free trips of lawmakers by all kinds of transport.
The draft law also proposed to cancel lawmakers immunity, but MPs decided to exclude this norm from the draft law and to consider this issue later.
