Eugenia Tymoshenko, daughter of imprisoned opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, says Ukraine must respect European values, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
“We’re not just talking about my mother and her political associates, we’re talking about democracy and our country’s European future. Ukraine belongs in Europe and should adhere to European values,” Eugenia Tymoshenko said today while addressing a meeting of the Italian parliament`s foreign affairs committee.
Eugenia Tymoshenko also stressed that Italy, as one of the originators of the EU, is very important to Ukraine.
A discussion about the persecution of the opposition by Yanukovych’s authoritarian regime and the backsliding of democracy in Ukraine followed Eugenia’s speech.
Members of the committee agreed to draft a resolution on Ukraine to be discussed by the Italian Parliament.
