Europeans hope to be allowed to visit Yulia Tymoshenko in prison
Mailis Reps and Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin, the PACE co-rapporteurs on Ukraine, hope to get permission from the Ukrainian authorities to visit former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska prison, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
“We submitted another request to meet with Yulia Tymoshenko since this time we couldn’t meet with her. But we will visit Ukraine again in May and then we’ll see,” Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin said at a press conference today in Kyiv.
The co-rapporteur stressed that visiting prisoners is common international practice. “There are such cases in Azerbaijan and Russia. But in other countries there is the opportunity to visit prisoners,” she said.
