Yanukovych: Ukraine's development program should take global trends into account
The Program of development of Ukraine should take into account modern global trends, be proactive, and offer a long-term strategy of building the state President Viktor Yanukovych said at a meeting on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych.According to the President, the priority of domestic policy is deep systemic modernization of the country – the economy, social policy, public administration, humanitarian sphere. In foreign policy, it is important to develop ties with the EU, USA, and Russia. "Europe is definitely experiencing difficult times. But our course towards European integration remains unchanged," he said.
It is also important to strengthen cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries that are actively developing, Viktor Yanukovych said. The President reminded that during the last two years he has visited several countries in the region, including China, South Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam. "During the official visits and numerous meetings with political and business elites, we were able to lay the foundation for real cooperation and partnership," said Viktor Yanukovych.
It is important now to take advantage of the opportunities opened for Ukraine in the region, the President said. "We have set ourselves an ambitious goal to combine our European aspirations with the plans of global partnership," he said.
