Man sentenced for animal cruelty

The Prymorskiy District Court in Odesa sentenced a local resident to 2 months in jail for cruel treatment of an animal, the court reported as quoted by KW.

“The accused was found guilty for taking a cat by the tail and beating its head on a set of stairs on July 23, 2011. The torturer could have been sentenced to 6 months in jail, but the court factored that the culprit repented for his deed and paid 3,000 hryvnia for medical treatment of the animal,” said Vice President of the Odesa Union for the Protection of Animals Iryna Momot.

Ms Momot stressed that the first stringent sentence passed down in Odesa for the harsh treatment of animals.
