The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its grave concern over the political situation in Ukraine and the fate of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"With the approach of a major sporting event - Euro-2012, co-organized by Poland and Ukraine - France recalls its grave concern over the political situation in Ukraine, particularly the case of Yulia Tymoshenko,” the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The French ministry also reminded the Ukrainian authorities that the EU’s relations with Ukraine, as with other Eastern Partnership countries, is based on values of freedom, democracy and respect for fundamental human rights.
"We urge the Ukrainian authorities to respect their commitment to respect fundamental freedoms and make in the coming weeks the necessary decisions in this regard. We are currently in close contact with our European partners in this situation,” the statement said.
