Party of Regions leader Victor Yanukovych claimed that the Ukrainian army will transfer to the contract basis not earlier than in 2010.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, Victor Yanukovych claimed this to “Ltava” TV-radio company today.
“Before doing this, we should thoroughly prepare. There is a succession that we should follow step by step, we will gradully reduce the draft and increase the number of those serving by contract. Really, it may take place not earlier than in 2010”, he said.
The Party of Regions leader also assesses the BYuT statement that the Ukrainian army will transfer to a contract basis since 1 January of 2008 as populist slogan.
“First of all, it is impossible to do in practice, and, secondly, it is dangerous for the country. It is dangerous, because such actions make young people refuse from their constitutional duty”, he stressed.
