The Euro 2012 Soccer Championship brought more than 1.8 million tourist to Ukraine, the country`s Deputy Prime Minister Borys Kolesnikov said here on Wednesday, according to Xinhua.

"We have managed to organize the third largest sporting event after the Olympic Games and the World Cup," Kolesnikov was quoted by Euro 2012 information center as saying.

The average expenditure of the overseas visitor in Ukraine was around 400 U.S. dollars, Kolesnikov said, adding that the overall tourist expenditure for the event was around one billion dollars.

Kolesnikov noted that about 700,000 fans watched the Euro 2012 matches at the stadiums in four host cities, while the others football-lovers have attended the official fan zones.

The international visitors had come to Ukraine mainly from Sweden, Netherland, Britain, Spain and Italy.

Ukraine co-hosted Euro 2012 with neighboring Poland between June 8 and July 1. The event took place in four Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Lvov, Donetsk and Kharkov and four Polish cities of Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan.
