Ukraine is considering providing humanitarian assistance to Russia`s flood-stricken south, a foreign ministry official said Tuesday, according to Xinhua.

"At the moment, we are working through the issue of providing humanitarian assistance to the Russian Federation," Oleh Voloshyn, director of the ministry`s information policy department, told reporters.

President Viktor Yanukovych on Monday extended condolences to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over victims in the deadly floods.

Russia`s Krasnodar region was hit by flooding following a recent spate of torrential rains. More than 170 people have been killed and 25,000 affected in the town of Krymsk and the neighboring cities of Gelendzhik and Novorossiisk.

The floods have disrupted local power, gas and water supply lines as well as automobile and rail traffic.
