Ukraine is actively working to fulfill its obligations to the Council of Europe, particularly in the context of strengthening democratic institutions, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych. It was stated by the President at the meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland.

“We didn’t waste time and have been working a lot to fulfill our obligations to the Council of Europe. The last two years have been filled with reforms aimed at strengthening democratic institutions,” the President said. He particularly expressed gratitude to the Council of Europe experts for their assistance in elaboration of the new Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The Head of State also expressed belief that the summaries of today’s conference on the first year of implementing the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2011-2014 would allow to use the potential of that authoritative international organization in the context of political reforms in Ukraine more actively.
