Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych called for closer trade ties between his country and Jordan during a meeting here Wednesday with Jordan's Lower House Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi, according to Xinhua.

"In my opinion, to ensure the stable growth of bilateral trade, we must expand the structure of Ukrainian exports to Jordan," Yanukovych said.

Describing Jordan as one of Ukraine's most important trading partners in the Near East, Yanukovych said bilateral trade went up 30 percent in the first eight months of 2012.
