Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Thursday emphasized the need to develop renewable energy technologies in order to improve the country's environment, according to Xinhua.

"The development of renewable energy is central to overall energy policy in Ukraine," Yanukovych said at the opening ceremony of a wind energy farm in Zaporozhye region in the county's south.

The Botievska wind energy farm, which is expected to produce about 500 mega watts of electricity every year, will contribute to Ukraine's renewable energy progress and environmental improvement, Yanukovych said.
