Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Thursday has called on local authorities and sport officials to boost development of the mass sport and foster a strong sporting culture in the country, according to Xinhua.
"The development of physical culture and sports is the priority of the modern Ukraine," Yanukovych said during the third Ukrainian Sport Congress here.
Improving the health of the nation and promoting healthy lifestyles are the top goals of the Ukrainian authorities, the president said.
During the congress, Yanukovych praised Ukrainian Olympics and Paralympics teams for their outstanding performances in London and improving the national image of Ukraine.
The President also hailed the country' s success during hosting Euro 2012 Soccer Championship this summer.
The Ukrainian leader stressed the importance of facilitating sports culture development, urging the business community for financial support.
The third Ukrainian Sport Congress kicked off in Ukrainian House on Thursday to discuss the country's sports development strategy for the next 10 years. Ukrainian authorities, Olympic champions as well as local and foreign sport officials are taking part in it.
