Ukraine's former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been charged with murder for her alleged role in the death of Yevhen Shcherban, an influential lawmaker and businessman killed in 1996, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka said here on Friday, according to Xinhua.

"We have assembled the materials of pre-trial investigation, which showed that Tymoshenko really ordered the murder, along with Lazarenko," Pshonka told a press conference.

Pavlo Lazarenko, who served as Ukrainian prime minister in 1996- 1997, was jailed in 2006 for money laundering through U.S. banks.
