The Ukrainian government would compensate the families of those killed and injured in a recent air crash near the eastern city of Donetsk, officials said here Monday, according to Xinhua.

The families of those killed would each get 12,500 U.S. dollars, while those of the injured would each receive 3,125 dollars, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Vilkul said during a government meeting.

An An-24 aircraft en route from the southern resort of Odessa with 52 people aboard crashed while landing at Donetsk airport last Wednesday, killing five people and injuring nine others.

The five fatalities were soccer fans heading for a European Champions League match between Germany's Borussia Dortmund and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Three of the injured had been discharged from hospital and the remaining six, all crew members, were still being treated for broken limbs, Vilkul said.
