Ukraine works to fulfill its obligations before the Council of Europe and is willing to implement the Plan of Actions for 2014, according to the Press office of President Viktor Yanukovych. It was stated by the President at the meeting with President of the PACE Jean-Claude Mignon.
“We are willing to implement the Plan of Actions for 2014. I hope that we, as partners, will jointly monitor the implementation and achieve timely fulfillment,” the Head of State noted adding that the given issue was under his personal control.
“One of the important steps in the issue of improving democratic institutes is the approval of the new CPC. Now we are working over its implementation,” the President said.
The Head of State also congratulated the President of the PACE on re-election to his post at the beginning of 2013.
In his turn, Jean-Claude Mignon noted that PACE was willing to develop partnership with Ukraine in all spheres of mutual interest.
“We must help one another. Not only you have obligations before us, but also we have obligations before every state-member of the Council of Europe,” he emphasized.
The President of the PACE highly evaluated Ukrainian actions “on the way towards democracy”. However, he added that in order to implement all its tasks, Ukraine needed more time. “We understand that you need more time to fully meet the standards and fulfill the obligations taken,” Jean-Claude Mignon noted.
