The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has begun questioning the latest witness in the Shcherban murder case - Serhiy Taruta, who in 1995 co-founded the Industrial Union of Donbass – in the absence of Yulia Tymoshenko, according to official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
The court began the interrogation despite the insistence of the defense that Yulia Tymoshenko wanted to participate in the proceedings. The ex-premier filed the relevant request with the Kachanivska prison administration last week.
Serhiy Taruta is being questioned at the request of the defense.
Four witnesses have been questioned so far – Ihor Maryinkov, Serhiy Zaitsev, Volodymyr Shcherban and Oleksandra Kuzhel. The proceedings were held in the absence of Yulia Tymoshenko, in spite of the fact that she did not refuse to participate.
None of the witnesses have provided evidence to substantiate the charges against Yulia Tymoshenko of involvement in the 1996 murder of MP Yevhen Shcherban.
