Three people were killed early Monday after a car collided with a bus in Ukraine's western Ternopol region, authorities said, according to Xinhua.

The accident happened at about 1:45 a.m. local time (2245GMT Sunday), when a car crashed in a bus with 39 people onboard on Ternopol-Kremenets highway, according to the State Service for Emergencies.

The driver of the car and two passengers were killed instantly, while the passengers on the bus have escaped with no injuries.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

According to official statistics, 818 people have lost their lives in over 7,700 traffic accidents in Ukraine so far this year.
